I'll Stand by You

A story comes back to me today that I feel compelled to write about.  Over a year ago the men's group I meet with on Saturday mornings was talking about the roles of men and women in marriage and the church.  I really don't remember too much of what was discussed but remember the passage from Corinthians coming to mind:  "But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.  (1Co 11:3 ESV).  I didn't think much else other than how the man is over the woman in the relationship and it's OK for me to want a woman who would submit to me in marriage.

A day or so later I am driving to southbridge, MA for the job that I was working (still am, as I write this).  I hear the Lord speak to me:  "Michael, what is it you desire in a woman?"  Now I know that the Lord doesn't ask questions becuase he doesn't know the answer.  He is up to something and I know it usually deep and I will be weeping soon, so it is with the broken hearted.  (He did come to heal (bind up) the broken hearted by the way, not leave them broken - Isaiah 61:1).  So I start to picture a woman, short, petite, beautiful smile, lovely face, etc...  "No, not that, what about her heart?"  So I ponder that.  I think of the way the Lord and I walk together many mornings, and the fellowship we share, how all that is wrong can be made right in His presence, and how He brings me joy and comfort.  He makes me laugh, especially at myself.  "I would want someone who could share our times together.  If you lead me on a crazy journey that doesn't make sense, she would trust me and not fight about it, but know my heart is good and even if I mess up she would still be with me.  She would trust me wholeheartedly even in the midst of the darkest storms.  And that she would know how much I love her."

The Lord answers:  "Isn't that all I desire of you?"

"But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God. (1Co 11:3 ESV).

We are the Bride of Christ...

I'm always amazed at how the words of music are almost prophetic at times.  I don't know what Chrissy Hynde was thinking when she wrote this song but it's depth is unmeasurable in the Spirit and today it touched me deeply and the tears flowed and a broken part is being healed.  In my mind Jesus is singing this to me today, it also speaks of what I; as a man desire in a wife, and much of which a wife desires in her husband. - But I can't speak for Her...

Lyrics:
Oh, why you look so sad?
Tears are in your eyes
Come on and come to me now
Don't be ashamed to cry

Let me see you through
'cause I've seen the dark side too
When the night falls on you
You don't know what to do
Nothing you confess
Could make me love you less

I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you

So if you're mad, get mad
Don't hold it all inside
Come on and talk to me now
Hey, what you got to hide?
I get angry too
Well I'm a lot like you

When you're standing at the crossroads
And don't know which path to choose
Let me come along
'cause even if you're wrong
I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you

Won't let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you
Take me in, into your darkest hour

And I'll never desert you
I'll stand by you
And when...
When the night falls on you, baby
You're feeling all alone
You won't be on your own

I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you

Won't let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you

Take me in, into your darkest hour
And I'll never desert you

I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you

Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you...   Behold!  I am with you always to the very end of the age...   Jesus
